Barnsley fulfilment site expands late-cut-off capacity

A new Barnsley fulfilment centre will add automated sorting and packing capacity beside an existing parcel hub, extending network injection speed and pushing later cut-off times for next-day delivery.

IN Brief:

  • A £4 million investment is backing a new 25,000 sq m fulfilment centre in Barnsley.
  • The site will connect directly to an existing major operational hub less than 100 metres away.
  • Automation is intended to move parcels from order to network entry within an hour.

Evri is investing £4 million in a new 25,000 sq m fulfilment centre in Barnsley, adding capacity next to its existing hub as it expands fulfilment operations in the UK.

The new site is due to open in July 2026 following a fit-out that began after Evri took possession of the building in mid-March. Located less than 100 metres from the company’s existing Barnsley hub, the facility is designed to feed parcels directly into the wider network on an hourly basis, tightening the hand-off between fulfilment activity and downstream parcel processing.

The building will include automated sorting and packing systems intended to reduce processing times, with parcels expected to move from order stage to pick, pack, and entry into the delivery network within an hour. Evri has also set out an 11.59pm cut-off for next-day delivery, a notable extension for retailers and marketplace sellers looking to hold stock later in the day without losing service speed.

More than 150 jobs are expected to be created at the site. The Barnsley investment extends Evri’s fulfilment build-out after earlier expansion in Basildon and overseas, but its operational significance lies in how closely the new facility is tied into an existing parcel hub rather than standing apart from it.
