ATC Tires opens Visakhapatnam distribution hub

ATC Tires has started operations at a new Indian warehouse. The 80,000 sq ft Visakhapatnam facility will distribute passenger vehicle and off-highway tyres to domestic customers and export markets through a central logistics hub.

IN Brief:

  • ATC Tires has occupied 80,000 sq ft at TVS Industrial & Logistics Parks in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The operational facility handles Yokohama passenger car tyres and Alliance, Galaxy and Primex off-highway tyre brands.
  • The hub combines domestic distribution with export supply, while warehouse automation specifications and throughput targets remain undisclosed.

ATC Tires has begun operating an 80,000 sq ft distribution warehouse at TVS Industrial & Logistics Parks’ Visakhapatnam site in Andhra Pradesh, adding a regional hub for domestic tyre deliveries and export movements. The Yokohama Group company has taken space in an existing logistics park rather than announcing a new tyre manufacturing plant, and the facility is already operational.

The warehouse will hold and distribute Yokohama passenger car tyres alongside three off-highway ranges: Alliance, Galaxy and Primex. The latter products serve applications including agriculture, construction, industrial equipment and forestry. Supporting such different customer segments from a shared facility introduces several inventory and handling requirements, from maintaining adequate quantities of common passenger sizes to managing the larger dimensions and less predictable order patterns associated with specialist tyres.

TVS Industrial & Logistics Parks, or TVS ILP, has leased the premises to ATC Tires AP. The landlord describes the arrangement as a mother hub, indicating a central stockholding and redistribution role rather than solely a local dispatch depot. In practical terms, a mother hub can receive larger replenishment consignments, store a broader product range and supply smaller downstream branches or customers, although the companies have not disclosed the exact spoke network or replenishment frequencies for this operation.

The location in Visakhapatnam is intended to connect the tyre business with manufacturing activity and distribution markets in southern and eastern India. The coastal city’s port access also provides an option for export logistics. Those connections do not establish that every consignment will move through the port or that a particular road, rail or shipping route has been contracted; the announcement identifies the warehouse’s regional position rather than a finished transport schedule.

The tyre categories placed in the same building have different storage and handling requirements, which constrain the usable 80,000 sq ft footprint. Stock is differentiated by dimensions, load ratings, tread specifications and intended application, while customers require reliable item identification to avoid substitution between products that look similar. Larger off-highway tyres can create different storage density and handling constraints from passenger car tyres. Effective operation therefore depends on the storage design, location control and ability to pick the correct stock, not simply on the nominal 80,000 sq ft footprint.

Where a warehouse supplies both domestic and overseas customers, inventory accuracy must also be coordinated with documentation and dispatch processes. An export order can require a different staging sequence, customs data and transport handover from an order destined for an Indian dealer or industrial customer. The combined model offers an opportunity to consolidate stock visibility across channels, but no specific customs integration, transport management software or export service level has been disclosed for the Visakhapatnam installation.

The operation sits alongside Yokohama Group tyre production in Visakhapatnam. Jose Motha, General Manager of Supply Chain Management at Yokohama, described the distribution partnership as a way to strengthen logistics infrastructure and improve access to South and East Indian markets. The company’s stated aim is an operating network that can respond more readily to demand, although it has not quantified expected reductions in delivery lead times, handling costs or vehicle kilometres.

The lease adds a manufacturing customer to TVS ILP’s Andhra Pradesh logistics portfolio. The developer emphasises connected industrial parks and supporting services, but the published details do not identify the type or extent of automation installed specifically for ATC Tires. No specific warehouse automation installation is confirmed for ATC Tires, despite the landlord’s wider technology positioning.

The allocation of 80,000 sq ft also does not provide a reliable basis for estimating pallet capacity or daily tyre throughput. Those numbers depend on rack layout, floor loading, usable clear height, tyre stacking requirements, stock mix and loading bay design. They also change when bulky industrial sizes account for a greater share of the inventory. No occupancy, stockholding or throughput forecasts have yet been provided to establish operating scale beyond the building footprint.

The Visakhapatnam warehouse is now handling multiple tyre brands for domestic distribution and export supply, adding a central stockholding point to ATC Tires’ existing manufacturing and logistics operations. How much inventory the site can process will depend on its handling equipment, workforce configuration, inbound replenishment and dispatch arrangements, all of which must operate together to maintain order accuracy. The companies have not quantified delivery improvements or disclosed the stock management systems, transport partners and outbound routes. The verified change is a new, operating stockholding hub; its measured effect on delivery performance and distribution costs has yet to be reported.
