Jungheinrich wins FFG warehouse automation contract

Jungheinrich will automate a new central warehouse for FFG Flensburg. The project will support production supply at FFG’s new Plant 3 defence manufacturing site.

IN Brief:

  • Jungheinrich has won a contract to build an automated central warehouse for FFG in Flensburg.
  • The system includes a four-aisle high-bay warehouse with 19,152 pallet spaces and MIAS stacker cranes.
  • Commissioning is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.

Jungheinrich has secured a contract to automate the material handling operation at FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH, with a new central warehouse set to support production at the defence manufacturer’s Plant 3 site in Flensburg. The project forms part of FFG’s longer-term expansion of in-house manufacturing capacity.

At the centre of the scheme is a four-aisle pallet high-bay warehouse in silo design with 19,152 storage spaces. The building will cover around 2,220 square metres and reach a height of 30 metres, with four single-mast stacker cranes from Jungheinrich subsidiary MIAS handling fully automated storage and retrieval. The system is designed for around 110 double cycles per hour in two-shift operation.

Jungheinrich is supplying the warehouse as a turnkey package, including the MIAS cranes, control system, pallet conveyor technology, silo racking with roof and wall cladding, fire protection doors, and its Warehouse Control System for central material flow management. Detlef Vogel, Head of Logistics at FFG, said the automated high-bay warehouse “sets new standards in material logistics at FFG” and creates a strong base for efficient material handling processes.

FFG said Plant 3 will underpin a broader structural realignment at the site and provide room for further growth, with vehicle platforms including WiSENT, ACSV, and TAHR due to be produced there in future. Commissioning of the automated warehouse system is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.
