GEODIS has expanded certified pharmaceutical logistics across its Polish network. Renewed CEIV Pharma approval in Warsaw and GDP certification at Stryków Dobra connect validated airfreight, warehousing, and regional distribution.

GEODIS has renewed IATA CEIV Pharma certification for its Warsaw airfreight operation and secured Good Distribution Practice certification for its contract-logistics facility at Stryków Dobra in Poland.

The two approvals cover consecutive parts of the pharmaceutical chain. CEIV Pharma validates air-cargo quality systems, staff training, temperature control, risk management, and handling processes, while GDP governs the storage and distribution of medicinal products within the wholesale network.

Warsaw’s renewal confirms that the airfreight operation continues to meet IATA’s pharmaceutical requirements, and the Stryków Dobra approval extends validated controls into warehousing, inventory management, order preparation, documentation, and onward transport. Together, the sites create a more continuous compliant route between international arrival and regional distribution.

GEODIS operates 15 logistics warehouses in Poland with approximately 195,000 square metres of space, including a dedicated pharmaceutical facility at Pruszków. Its Polish freight-forwarding network handles more than 2,400 tonnes of air cargo annually through four locations.

Stryków sits near the junction of major Polish motorways, giving the facility access to Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań, Wrocław, and routes into Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, and the Baltic region. The location supports domestic distribution while allowing regulated products to move across central and eastern Europe without an unnecessary return to the capital.

Compliance must survive every handover

Pharmaceutical logistics extends well beyond maintaining a temperature range. Operators must qualify storage areas and vehicles, calibrate monitoring equipment, control access, document training, investigate deviations, manage returns, and preserve traceability through every transfer of custody.

A single certified warehouse offers limited protection when a shipment passes through unvalidated origin stations, airport handlers, road feeders, or final-mile depots. Manufacturers are therefore assessing complete lanes, including the systems and contingency arrangements used by each organisation that touches the product.

GEODIS now operates CEIV Pharma-certified capabilities across 13 European countries, creating alternatives when disruption affects an airport, border, or warehouse. Network breadth also allows products to move through fewer uncontrolled interfaces, provided the same procedures and data standards are maintained between locations.

The requirement is becoming more demanding as healthcare supply chains expand into biologics, clinical-trial materials, and cell and gene therapies. Some consignments need deep-frozen or cryogenic conditions, while controlled-room-temperature products can become unusable after relatively modest excursions.

Temperature is only one source of loss because counterfeit prevention, theft, documentation, recall capability, and chain of custody are equally important. A shipment that remained within limits may still be rejected when its identity or handling history cannot be verified.

Specialist networks are growing in response. A dedicated pharmaceutical warehouse planned for Manchester will add another GDP-oriented node to GEODIS’ European footprint, while FedEx has reorganised life-sciences operations into a global unit intended to coordinate parcel, freight, and cold-chain services.

Airports and handlers are also tightening expectations for forwarding partners, with pharmaceutical networks increasingly requiring evidence that companies can maintain standards before and after the airport stage. Certification is moving from a point feature to a condition of participation in complete lanes.

Poland’s pharmaceutical, medical-device, clinical-research, and contract-manufacturing sectors provide a substantial cargo base, while the country’s road network connects western European production with markets further east. That position makes reliable transfer between airfreight and road distribution particularly important.

Seasonal variation creates additional risk because Polish winters and summers expose products to sharply different temperatures during loading, unloading, and road transit. The brief periods between chamber and vehicle require as much control as the longer storage interval, especially when doors, docks, or handling equipment are shared.

Electronic evidence is becoming central to release decisions. Continuous monitoring, exception alerts, warehouse audit trails, and transport data allow quality teams to intervene before an excursion develops into a full product loss, while customers expect records to be available without manual reconstruction.

Certification does not remove operational failure, but it creates an externally tested management framework. Maintaining approval requires recurring training, equipment maintenance, internal audits, deviation investigation, and corrective action after the assessment team has left. Audit readiness must remain continuous across every certified handover and facility.

The Warsaw and Stryków milestones connect international air cargo with compliant storage and regional distribution across a strategically placed Polish network. Consistency during peak volumes, severe weather, and disrupted transport will determine whether the certified lane performs as strongly under pressure as it does during routine operation.
