Robotronic and Mitsubishi target faster pharma palletising

Robotronic and Mitsubishi Electric have developed a compact automated palletising cell for vials and pre-filled syringes, aiming to raise throughput while reducing footprint and handling risk in pharmaceutical production.

IN Brief:

  • Robotronic and Mitsubishi Electric have developed a compact palletising cell for pharma formats.
  • The system is designed for vials and pre-filled syringes, with output of up to 600 products a minute.
  • High-speed dual-robot handling and soft-touch control are central to the design.

Robotronic and Mitsubishi Electric have developed a compact automated palletising cell for vials and pre-filled syringes, targeting higher throughput and shorter lead times in pharmaceutical production.

The new cell has been designed for space-constrained environments and is intended to handle pallets as small as 120cm by 80cm. At the centre of the system are two Mitsubishi Electric FR series robots operating side by side at high speed, using built-in compliance control and soft-touch handling to reduce the risk of glass damage while maintaining close operating tolerances.

Robotronic said the system can process up to 600 products a minute and has been developed around the practical demands of pharmaceutical handling, where speed, cleaning, consistency, and product protection all carry regulatory weight. The company specialises in vial and syringe applications including de-nesting, re-nesting, de-traying, re-traying, and palletising, giving the new cell a clear fit within existing pharma automation workflows rather than a purely standalone showcase role.

The launch lands against a backdrop of recurring medicine shortages in Europe and sharper scrutiny of production resilience. In that setting, compact automation is increasingly attractive where manufacturers want more throughput without giving up cleanroom space or accepting a higher risk of product loss in fragile primary-pack formats.
